February 12, 2009, marked the 200th birthday anniversary of Charles Darwin. On this program we discuss his influence relative to the philosophy of evolution. Information from a recent (February 2009) Gallup Poll is shared, revealing interesting insights into Darwin’s influence and the influence of higher secular education.

I’ve just returned from playing in the February 21 & 22, 2009, Arizona Open Table Tennis Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. This was all a lot of fun. Not just participating, but watching some really awesome table tennis matches. It’s amazing at just how good some players really are; especially the younger one’s with excellent reflexes.

This was my second tournament at the Phoenix Table Tennis Club. Both events were very well organized, with no detail overlooked.

I played in the over 60 event on Saturday and placed fourth out of six participants. The really bad news is that I played very well for me. I played two players (one rated 1600+ and one 1500+ that beat me soundly at my previous tournament there. Although I didn’t win my matches with them, I did much better, scoring 8, 9, and 12 against the 1600+ player. (Again, the games are to 11, unless the players are tied.) I do not recall the scores, but I played well against the 1500+ player.

On Sunday I played in the under 1300 rated event. I made it to the second round where I was eliminated by the same player that put me out at the last tournament there. Again, I played very well for me, but it wasn’t good enough. The player that put me out ended up in second place.

I am learning and getting better. The best part is that it is a lot of fun, with great opportunities for witnessing for my Saviour.

You know you’re getting old when you call and make your own dental appointment!

In the beginning there was nothing, and God said, ‘Let there be light!’  And there was still nothing, but you could see it better.               : )

This one’s from Scott Smyth (Hong Kong). I plan on using this one two more times, then it will be mine!

You know you’ve put on a few pounds when the end of your tie doesn’t come anywhere near the top of your pants. (You kind of need to picture this one.)             : )

This is a very interesting program, in that we discuss the topic of “Acts of God”. Most insurance policies have an exclusion for events that fall under the category of “Acts of God”. I.e., what are also referred to as “natural disasters”. Whether it be a cyclone, volcanic eruption, aircraft crash, or personal diagnosis of a terminal disease, is God the cause?

I pray this program is somewhat enlightening and encouraging to those that have personally experienced tragedy in their lives.

Note: There is no Program #55

If you haven’t thought of it yet:  Atheism is a non-prophet organization!

Perhaps you’ve heard of the ink spots that were crying and wailing and nashing their pigment.

It seems they found out their father was in the Pen.

(If you like this one it’s from me. If you don’t like this one, it’s from Charlie at my church who told me this one this morning.)

You perhaps have heard of the fella that sent ten puns to a friend that didn’t like puns, in the hopeful expectation that at least one would make him laugh.

Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

(Be sure to say this rather quickly. If it still didn’t work for you, YOU’RE the friend!)
